"A collection or archive cannot be presented in its entirety. There are only excerpts or contexts or perspectives that become visible and obscure others. Based on the exhibition Candida Höfer: Kontexte. Eine Dresdner Reflexion at the Kupferstich-Kabinett in Dresden and 22 Züge durch ein Archiv der Archive: Athen muß immer wieder aus Alexandria gerettet werden by Erick Beltrán for the opening of the Archive of the Avant-Gardes—both collaborative projects of the Research Department of the Dresden State Art Collections from 2024—the lecture discusses various methods of artistic approaches and spatial decisions in dealing with historical collections and archives in an institutional context. Past, present, and future are linked in these different experimental arrangements to produce tangible image realisms."
