Gili Tal (b.1983) lives in London. For the last few years she has been thinking around how the outside, urban world is branded, and the asymmetrical power geometries that come into play when it comes to the question of who gets to roam it. Her recent shows include 'Civic Virtues', 2018, at Cabinet, London, 'Roaming', 2016, at Jenny's, LA, 6A Minerva Street, Vilma Gold, London in 2015,  and 'Panoramic Views of the City' at Sandy Brown, Berlin in 2014. Titled 'Mastering the Nikon D750', her current show at gta, ETH Zurich, will run until December 11.

4. Steve Bishop

Public lecture: January 22nd, 7 pm

Steve Bishop (b. 1983 Toronto, CA; lives and works in London, UK). In his practice, Bishop focuses on creating complex, surreal spatial environments that conjure subtle emotional states through the evocation of abstract, biographically informed, dream-like parallel worlds. His objects, films, and sculptures address questions of remembrance and how architectural spaces can reflect interior states.  Recent solo presentations of Bishop’s work have taken place at Kunstverein Braunschweig and KW Institute of Contemporary Art, Berlin.

5. Yalda Afsah

Public lecture: January 29th, 7 pm

Studio visits for students: January 30th (with registration*)

Berlin-based German/Iranian artist and filmmaker Yalda Afsah (born 1983) continuously explores the extent to which filmed space can become a construction through cinematic means, as the documentary character of her works transitions into a form of theatricality. Afsah studied at the University of Arts Berlin, Burg Giebichenstein College of Art in Halle and the California Institute of the Arts. She has presented her work at various exhibitions and festivals including the Locarno Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) London and Neuer Berliner Kunstverein. In 2018, she received the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff scholarship and is a current fellow at Graduate School at UdK, Berlin.
