The way how (rightwing) terror is being discussed in society, politics and media, tells a lot about the self-conception of societies. Used terms and narratives in these discurses state a lot about how acts of terror are interpreted. Furthermore they have crucial impact on political consequences as well as on the question which place they take over in collective memory. In his lecture Florian Hiermeier will highlight the reception of rightwing, racist and antisemitic terror in post-war Germany. Recurring narratives within the debate will also be part of his input.

Florian Hiermeier studied political science, contemporary history and cultural anthropology in Munich and Vilnius (Lithuania). His main research focus was on historical and current forms of right-wing extremism, antisemitism and racism. Since 2016 Florian works as research associate in the Task Force for Democracy (Fachstelle für Demokratie) in Munich’s City Hall. His main focus is on combating right-wing extremism, antisemitism and racism in Munich. He was strongly involved in the discussion how to classify the racist attack at the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum (OEZ) in Munich in which 9 people were murdered in July 2016.
