# Contemporary Art and Political Impotence

 The lecture will deal with the ways in which art can approach the political sphere by ways of negation, as a sort of an activity whose politics involves highlighting its political ineffectiveness. It will do so through a presentation of ten exhibitions curated by Ory Dessau over the past decade.  
   
   
Ory Dessau is a Ghent-based curator for contemporary art. Among his recent projects: "Fundamentalist Cubes – Inside Spaces by Bruce Nauman, Absalon, and Gregor Schneider" at Fondation M-ARCO, Marseille (2018); "Kobro and Strzemiński: New Art in Turbulent Times" at Moderna Museet Malmö (co-curated with Iris Müller-Westermann and Jaroslaw Suchan, 2018); "Zvi Goldstein – Distance and Differences" at S.M.A.K. Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent (2016). In Munich he recently curated the group show "Inside the Distance" at Galerie Sabine Knust (Artists: Ronald de Bloeme, Lothar Hempel, Gregor Hildebrandt, Olaf Holzapfel, Sebastian Preece, Adam Rabinowitz, 2017).

 The workshop will be based on reviewing students' original works and portfolio as part of an in-depth examination, contextualizing each of the practices in the spectrum of the contemporary global art field.
