# Ilka Sander

 

 Ilka Sander is a visual artist, particularly interested in the effect that movement and liveliness have on her sculptures. She works primarily with sculpture, in which she develops her own symbolism and formal language. One of the recurring forms is the spine as a fragmentary body part, which can represent pain but also strength. She is very interested in the interplay between emotions and physical manifestation.  
For example, she has stripped the fur from an electronic toy teddy bear to reveal the technical skeleton underneath and highlight the absurdity of this object. The arm and head movements it makes are reminiscent of its former existence as a toy and interact with viewers.  
Her artistic work serves as a catalyst for her own emotions on the one hand and as a space to reflect on categories such as nature vs. culture, human vs. animal, or body  
vs. emotion on the other.
