Tanja Widmann’s artistic practice reflects on the material and social realities and fictions connected to the complex relationship of artwork, artist, and their entanglement in the processes of economic and symbolic value production. The conditions and regulations of contemporary “life” are at the center of her work. Co-production and delegation, appropriation and remix, deformation and gag are at the core of Widmann’s installations that take their cue from scripts and comprise different formats: performance, readymade, film, print, painting, music… At times the artistic work also extends into the format of symposia, workshops, texts and publications. Her work has been shown in numerous international solo and group exhibitions, at FELIX GAUDLITZ, Wien; Museum Brandhorst, Munich; VOX, Montréal; mumok, Vienna; Belvedere 21, Vienna; mukah, Antwerpen; Secession, Vienna; Nous Moules, Vienna; Grazer Kunstverein, Graz; Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe; tranzit, Prague; Kiev Biennale 2015 und Manifesta8.
