# Klasse Prof. Gerry Bibby

![Klasse Prof. Gerry Bibby](https://www.adbk.de/images/stories/aktuell/2026/06/karl.jpg)

"Karl Holmqvist is a thief a lover an observer an artist.

But these are just a few words of mine.

Here are others dragged out from a lazy online search in an attempt to distance myself from the colleague & friend that Holmqvist is. They; the words, appear & were typed out about contact with a film* that Holmqvist once told me was his favourite:

*Growing up in The Netherlands, I was still in elementary school when I saw a television production truck in full operation. I stuck around […] images from the cameras were combined into a sequence that told the story of the scene […unfolding…] on the set before me.  The whole process fascinated me and I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of it. After I found out that it was common in my country to combine the functions of videotape editor and technical director, I made it my quest to become an editor.*

Karl Holmqvist is also an editor & Swedish. He has lived in Paris New York London Berlin.

That sentence could be a t-shirt, a hand made t-shirt or a poem written out on the surface of a building in Los Angeles called *LAXART*.

We are so very privileged to welcome him to Munich this week for screenings of recent films produced in both Los Angeles & Berlin.

After their premier in Berlin not so long ago one of them,* L.A. SHADOWPLAY (Meshes of The Mackey Apartments)*, is a dedication to Maya Deren’s film* Meshes of the Afternoon* (1943), also made in Los Angeles. Please join us in the Auditorium of the Neubau @ the Akademie from 17:00 for a screening of the film followed by a conversation about Holmqvist’s practice.

We will then exit the Akademie for a screening of *BERLIN TRILOGY PART I, 2025-26 *in *APLOMB* –– a new space organised by students of Klasse Bibby opposite the Academy in a window vitrine of the ASTOR Film Lounge on the corner of Rambergstraße & Türkenstraße."
