"Under the patronage of Prof. Olaf Nicolai, with a welcome address by the President, Prof. Karen Pontoppidan, and supported by the Stiftung Kunstakademie München.

In her lecture, Charmaine Poh elaborates on the themes „Devotion/Disappearance“ and opens up the intellectual and aesthetic pathways, she has pursued in her practice over the last five years. She will give an insight into her latest works comprised in her first institutional solo exhibition under the title „Make a travel deep of your inside, and don’t forget me to take“ at PalaisPopulaire, Berlin in 2025, and upcoming at MUDEC Milan in September 2026, as part of the Deutsche Bank Artist of the Year prize. Ranging from videos and photographs to objects, "Devotion/Disappearance" delves into the way marginalized femme figures have navigated opacity while asserting their existence. The protagonists resist easy categorization, spanning the mythic, historical, and digital, while rooting themselves in the rich contexts of Singapore and its regional diaspora.

Charmaine Poh (born in Singapore in 1990, lives in Berlin) completed her bachelor's degree in International Relations, Communication and Media Studies at Tufts University in the USA in 2013 and her master's degree in Visual and Media Anthropology at the Free University of Berlin in 2019. In 2021 and 2022, she was a lecturer in Interdisciplinary Studies and Documentary Practice at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Her work encompasses media, moving images and performance to deconstruct, question and capture ideas of agency, repair and the body across worlds. She draws on strategies of visibility, opacity, deviation and future orientation, including through numerous performances, lectures and workshops. Charmaine Poh has been exhibiting internationally since 2016, including at the the Singapore Art Museum, the Seoul Museum of Art, and the Venice Biennale ‘Foreigners Everywhere’, curated by Adriano Pedrosa (2024). As Deutsche Bank's ‘Artist of the Year 2025’, her works were on display in a solo exhibition at Deutsche Bank's PalaisPopulaire in Berlin (11 September 2025 - 23 February 2026) and will be on display in the same configuration at MUDEC, Milan, from 17 September - 1 November 2026. Charmaine Poh was the first Singaporean to be awarded the prestigious Villa Romana Prize in 2026. Her works are included in the collections of the Vega Foundation, the Sunpride Foundation, KADIST, Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank, among others."
