The ERASMUS+ programme not only supports study stays in the member states of the EU and EFTA as well as Turkey, but also internships. These are even funded at a higher monthly rate.

For art students in particular, this offers a good opportunity to go abroad in Europe in a relatively uncomplicated way both during and immediately after their studies (graduate scholarship) and to gain valuable experience.

The advantages include:

  • There is no deadline, applications are possible all year round (complete documents must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start of the internship).
  • The internship placement is not linked to partnership agreements (as is the case with study exchanges), i.e. you can look for a placement in any of the countries participating in the programme. This means that you can, for example, complete a stay abroad with an artist, in a workshop, museum, gallery, archive, at a university, or even (if there is a connection to your artistic work), a Norwegian whale research ship, a scientific/political/social institution, etc.

Eligible placements are:

  • Voluntary and compulsory internships
  • Types of internships:
    • free artistic internships,
    • regular internships (e.g. orientation and pedagogical-didactic internships for art teachers, can be recognised by the "Praktikumsamt")

  • Internships during and immediately following studies (the graduate internship must be applied for during studies and completed no later than 12 months after exmatriculation).

Reasonable connection with the degree programme (completed, if applicable).

Internship duration of at least two to a maximum of twelve months

(Please note: Internships in EU institutions as well as institutions that administer EU programmes cannot be funded).

Eligible destination countries:

  • EU member states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom* and their overseas territories such as La Reunion, etc.).
  • Countries of the EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway)
  • Turkey
  • Northern Macedonia
  • Serbia

*Stays in the UK are eligible in the academic year 2021/22.

The scholarship rates vary depending on the destination country. They currently range from 435 to 555 euros per full month.

Students with disabilities can apply for additional funding before the start of their internship. Please note that in some cases this requires an application deadline of more than two months.

The financial processing of Erasmus internships is handled by our consortium partner KOOR Best in Karlsruhe. You can find further information at KOOR Erasmus Services BW - Placement.

Please note that internships can only be approved and recognised in consultation with your class professor.
