The ERASMUS+ programme not only supports study stays in the member states of the EU and EFTA as well as Turkey, but also internships. These are even funded at a higher monthly rate. For art students in particular, this offers a good opportunity to go abroad in Europe in a relatively uncomplicated way both during and immediately after their studies (graduate internship) and to gain valuable experience. Voluntary and compulsory internships are eligible for funding.

  • There is no deadline, applications are possible all year round. The complete documents must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start of the internship.
  • The internship is not linked to partnership agreements (as is the case with study exchanges), i.e. you can look for a placement in any of the countries participating in the programme. This means that you can do a placement with an artist, in a workshop, museum, gallery, archive, at a university, or even (if related to your artistic work) on a Norwegian whale research vessel, in a scientific/political/social institution, etc.

  • Internship in an European country abroad (see below for eligible countries)
  • Enrolment at the Academy of Fine Arts at the time of application
  • Internships possible during and immediately after your studies. The graduate internship must be applied for during the course of study and must be completed no later than 12 months after exmatriculation
  • Reasonable connection with the (completed) degree program
  • Internship duration of at least two to a maximum of twelve months
  • Please note that internships can only be approved and recognized in consultation with your class professor
  • Types of internships: free artistic internships, regular internships (e.g. orientation and pedagogical-didactic internship for art teachers, can be recognized by the Internship Office)

Please note: Internships in EU institutions and institutions managing EU programs are not eligible for funding. You can find out which institutions these include on the EU website. These internships can be funded via a separate DAAD program (website only in German).

The scholarship rates vary depending on the destination country. They currently range between 480 and 600 Euro per month. You can find an overview of the currently valid scholarship rates here. Students with disabilities can apply for additional funding before the start of their internship. Please note that in some cases this requires an application deadline of more than two months.

There is no insurance cover associated with an ERASMUS+ mobility grant. If you are funded by ERASMUS+, you are obliged to have health insurance, international health insurance, accident insurance as well as liability insurance with certain features - among others, the international health insurance must also cover pandemic cases. Please contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Alternatively, it is possible to take out group insurance at a reduced rate, e.g. through the DAAD.

Erasmus+ internships Worldwide - applications now open again!
Applications for Erasmus+ traineeship funding outside the EU/Erasmus+ programme countries can now be accepted again, provided that the traineeships end by 30.04.2023 at the latest. (November 2022)

Since November 2021, it is possible to apply for an Erasmus+ internship grant also for an internship outside the EU or the Erasmus programme countries. Internships in the UK* can also be funded with this. However, only a limited quota of funding is available. Funding is distributed on a first-come-first-served basis, i.e. the date of receipt of the complete application documents is decisive. KOOR-Erasmus Services BW is responsible for awarding the scholarships. As with an internship in the EU, please first organize an internship on your own. Then you register with Placement Online (KOOR). You will then receive information on how to proceed from KOOR-Erasmus Services. Please also inform the International Office at the Academy if you are planning an internship outside Europe.

*For students who would like to do an internship in the UK: Please note that due to the Brexit, only research internships that do not require a visa are eligible for funding.

Funding conditions
For Erasmus+ internships worldwide, the same conditions apply as for Erasmus+ internships in partner countries, see "General Requirements". A travel allowance is not granted. The current funding amount for international internships can be found here
