The Erasmus programme was launched in 1987 and has become the most popular exchange programme. With around 30 partner universities, the AdBK Munich offers you the best conditions for an Erasmus stay. In addition to exemption from tuition fees at the partner university and administrative support, the Erasmus exchange programme also comes with a scholarship.
In 2021, a new generation of the Erasmus programme has begun, the so-called ERASMUS+ (duration 2021 - 2027).
- Matriculation at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich
- Completion of at least two semesters of study at the beginning of the stay abroad (Master programme one semester)
- Knowledge of the language of instruction at the host university (English language skills are sometimes also accepted)
- Students who do not have their main place of residence in Germany may not complete the semester abroad in their main country of residence
Duration of the stay
Two to a maximum of twelve months, i.e. one or two semesters within an academic year.
Partner Universities
Please inform yourself about your preferred partner university at an early stage.
Please also find out whether your degree programme is offered at the partner university.
In preparation, we recommend that you read the experience reports of former Erasmus students. You can find them in the library.
Application Deadline
By 28.02. all applications must be submitted and documents uploaded in the online application portal via a link on our website. The use of the university email address is a prerequisite for the application. This date is independent of whether the stay abroad is planned for one or two semesters. There is no separate application date for the summer semester!
Required application documents
- Online application form 2023/24 > Deadline: 28.02.2023
- Passport sized photo
- Certificate of enrolment
- CV
Application procedure
1. Find out about the exact semester times and the language of instruction at the partner university.
2. Register in the online portal and complete the online form. A direct application to the partner university is not possible.
3. After the application deadline, the International Office will make a selection based on the following criteria:
- Existing exchange places
- Previous participation in the Erasmus programme
- If applicable, semester level (if there are more applicants than places, higher semesters will be given preference. However, a low semester is not a basic criterion for exclusion!)
4. You will be informed by the International Office whether you have been offered a place. The International Office will then nominate you at the partner university.
5. Once you have been nominated, the next step is to send your application documents to the partner university. Please inform yourself in advance about the application deadline and the required application documents (e.g. portfolio, letter of motivation etc). If a so-called Learning Agreement is already required for the application, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We will then send you the relevant information.
6. Notify the International Office of your acceptance.
7. Once you have been accepted, you must register with KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe to receive your scholarship. For more information, see "Scholarships". Please note that you have to register with KOOR 4 weeks before your stay abroad at the latest!
Since 2018, the financial management of the scholarship has been handled by our consortium partner KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe. For the further procedure you therefore have to register in the KOOR-Erasmus Services Mobility Online Portal.
The individual scholarships depend on the country of the partner university and are granted and paid by KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe. The minimum duration of stay and sponsorship is two months. The amount of the current monthly sponsorship sum can be found here.
Please note that KOOR-Erasmus Services must receive your complete documents one month before the start of the study visit at the latest! Retroactive funding is not possible!
Please start several weeks in advance as you will have to obtain various signatures from the host and home university. KOOR-Erasmus Services will process your application successively after receipt of the application documents or after their completeness. In order to ensure equal treatment of all scholarship holders, KOOR-Erasmus Services will apply this procedure in all steps (issue of the Grant Agreement, instruction of the first instalment, processing of the final documents and payment of the second instalment).
You can find detailed tutorials on registration and the required application documents on KOOR's Youtube channel (videos in German only). For questions regarding your registration with KOOR and your scholarship, KOOR offers an online consultation every Tuesday from 11:00 - 12:00 am. You can find the link here.
Please also note: Simultaneous receipt of an Erasmus scholarship and another EU scholarship or a DAAD scholarship is not permitted.
In order to receive ERASMUS+ funding, you need a so-called Learning Agreement (LA), which is made available to you in the online portal of KOOR-Erasmus Services. This Learning Agreement contains an overview of the courses you would like to take during your stay.
For the Learning Agreement you will need the name and email address of the head of the examination board of your degree programme. These are:
Fine Arts: Prof. Hermann Pitz, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Art Education: Prof. Nils Norman, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Interior Architecture: Prof. Katja Knaus, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Architecture: Prof. Bernardo Bader, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Please note: All those going abroad from the summer semester 2023 onwards must create their Learning Agreements digitally via Mobility Online KOOR. Please do not use the OLA platform.
All LA sections must be signed digitally by all three parties involved (student, partner university, head of examination board AdBK Munich). On the basis of the Learning Agreement, the Transcript of Records will be created by the partner university after your semester abroad, which you can then submit together with your Learning Agreement to the AdBK Munich in order to receive credit for the courses attended abroad.
First register at KOOR-Erasmus Services and upload the required documents. Then you can start filling out the Learning Agreement.
Before the Mobility - Creating the Learning Agreement
Please create your digital Learning Agreement (= DLA) at KOOR. Do not use the OLA platform. After KOOR has formally checked your application, the digital Learning Agreement can be entered in the workflow under Enter and sign Learning Agreement in MO. In this part of the Learning Agreement, the courses at the partner university that you would like to attend and the courses at AdBK that you would like to have replaced by the courses abroad must be entered.
1. Create and a Learning Agreement under Enter and sign Learning Agreement in MO.
2. Enter the courses that you would like to attend at the partner university and the courses at the AdBK that you would like to have replaced by them. It is not necessary for Table B to match Table A directly. The aim is rather that the sum of the learning outcomes achieved abroad replaces a group of learning outcomes at the sending institution. You can earn max. 30 ECTS credits per semester. The courses can be created under Save course - Create new course. The courses must be created individually and directly with the corresponding course at the AdBK. You are welcome to discuss the choice of courses with the head of the examination board at the AdBK.
3. Sign the Learning Agreement.
4. As soon as the LA has been signed, KOOR sends an email with an external link to the head of the examination board at AdBK Munich. The mail is automatically sent to the contact person (contact person at the home institution) entered in the registration mask.
Architecture and Art: Prof. Bernardo Bader, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
5. As soon as the Learning Agreement has been signed by the AdBK, it will be sent to the host university. Please enter the name of the contact person at the partner university here.
6. As soon as the LA has been confirmed by both sides, the step Learning Agreement confirmed by host university is marked green in the workflow in Mobility Online at KOOR.
Please note: The Learning Agreement can be rejected by both the home university and the host university. In this case, the Learning Agreement will be reset and you will receive an info mail. The courses can then be re-edited and the LA will be sent again to the home and host university for signature.
During the Mobility - Changes to the Learning Agreement
Here you can enter course changes after the start of the semester abroad, e.g. because courses do not take place. You can also add or drop courses. Enter the reason for the changes in the table. Course changes must be digitally signed again by the AdBK Munich and the partner university. To do this, change the Learning Agreement at KOOR (see above) and send it again to the head of the examination board at the AdBK. Please note: You can only change the courses during the first 5 weeks of your semester abroad. It is no longer possible to make changes at a later point in time. If you do not wish to add / change any courses, this part of the Learning Agreement does not need to be completed.
For questions regarding the Digital Learning Agreement, please contact KOOR: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
During the semester abroad, students can take a leave of absence at the AdBK. In this case, however, it is not possible to receive credit for the courses attended abroad. Even in the case of a leave of absence, re-registration for each semester is necessary. If you would like to take leave of absence or have questions regarding that please contact the Student Office: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
In order to have your academic archievements abroad recognized, please have the Learning Agreement signed by all parties and then submit it to the examination office (Prüfungsamt) responsible for you.

There is no insurance cover associated with an ERASMUS+ mobility grant. If you are funded by ERASMUS+, you are obliged to have health insurance, international health insurance, accident insurance as well as liability insurance with certain features - among others, the international health insurance must also cover pandemic cases. Please contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Alternatively, it is possible to take out group insurance at a reduced rate, e.g. through the DAAD.
In many cases, it is possible to attend introductory weeks for international students or language courses at the host university even before you begin your studies abroad. Therefore, enquire at the host university early on about special offers for international students that facilitate orientation at the beginning of your studies abroad.
In individual cases, it is possible to extend your stay abroad by another semester. Please contact us early (i.e. at least one month before the end of the semester) to apply for an extension. Please note, however, that an extension is only possible from the winter to the summer semester! For the extension, we need the written consent of your class professor. Please also clarify the extension with KOOR.
Please inform the International Office and the Student Office immediately of any changes that occur during your stay abroad, such as an extension or termination of your stay.
In addition to the study report for the EU or KOOR-Erasmus Services, we ask you to submit an experience report to the AdBK Munich. With your personal experience report, you will significantly help the next generation of Erasmus students in their decision for a university and in the preparation of their stay abroad. You can find the experience reports of former Erasmus students in the library.
Your report should cover the following points: Preparation, arrival, everyday university life, personal experiences and evaluation. The report should be about 1-2 A4 pages long in order to get an impression of the host university and the host country. Useful tips for future students with similar plans are explicitly desired.
Detailed information on how to write your report can be found here.
Please send us the report (preferably as a Word Document) by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than 2 weeks after your return.
