The ERASMUS+ programme enables researchers, teachers and staff of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich to spend time abroad in other European countries. Funding is available for teaching stays (STA) and stays for further education and training (STT). As a rule, these are shorter stays of at least 2 to a maximum of 5 days. If sufficient funding is available, longer stays can also be funded in individual cases. Staff mobility must take place in a country that is neither the country of the sending higher education institution nor the main country of residence of the person concerned.

The following group of persons can be funded in the area of STA and STT:

  • Lecturers who have a contractual relationship with the AdBK
  • Lecturers without an endowment
  • Research/artistic assistants

With STT university staff from these areas can be funded:

  • General and technical administration
  • Library staff
  • Finance
  • International Office
  • Human Resources
  • Public Relations

Possible activity formats in the area of STT:

  • Job shadowing

  • Current teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.
  • Teaching time at the host university: at least 8 hours on at least 2 consecutive days (excluding travel time)
  • ERASMUS+ contract between the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and the host university

You can find a list of our partner universities here.

  • Permission to travel on official business

  • Sufficient language skills (national language and/or English)
  • Financial and mobility agreement (includes the preparation of a work programme in agreement with the host institution)
  • Preparation of a progress report at the end of the stay

If you are interested in a guest lectureship at one of our European partner universities, please contact the respective partner university independently. You can find an overview of our partner universities here. Upon request we can also send you  the contact details of the respective Erasmus Coordinator abroad. There is no deadline, applications are possible all year round, provided that sufficient funding is available. For better planning, you should apply for ERASMUS+ staff mobility for the following academic year early, ideally at least one month before the planned mobility.

The following application procedure applies to STA only.

Before your stay:

  1. You organise the contact with the receiving institution on your own and agree on the period and scope of the teaching stay.
  2. Please notify the International Office of your planned mobility by email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). You will then receive a link to the online application form.
  3. Please complete the online application form. You will need the data on the duration of the teaching activity, the teaching language, the contact of the responsible Erasmus Coordinator at the partner university and your contact person on site. If the contact person is not yet stored in the system and is displayed automatically, please enter the contact here.
  4. After you have submitted the form, you will receive a confirmation email with a registration link. Please log in to the online portal Mobility Online via the link. You can set your own password and user name.
  5. Then please complete your personal data in Mobility Online. Please also enter a bank account to which the scholarship should be transferred. In the portal, you have the option of changing the data you entered during the application process once again.
  6. Please complete the information on your planned teaching activity under the item "Information for the STA Mobility Agreement" in English. Please first click on "Continue to change". Then briefly describe the content of your teaching activities, the objectives or the expected results and how both universities will benefit. If you are teaching in Austria, the texts can also be written in German. Then click on "Make changes" and then "Cancel display".
  7. The International Office will then check your application for formal completeness.
  8. You will receive the STA Mobility Agreement document by email. Check the data and, if necessary, complete or correct the information you have entered. Then sign it and send the document to the partner university by email. As soon as the partner university has countersigned, send the Mobility Agreement as a scan by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
  9. Next, you will receive the Grant Agreement for your stay by email. Please print out the contract in duplicate and send the original of both signed documents by post to the International Office of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich (or put it in the letter box).

If you have any questions, please contact us by email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you are interested in an STT stay in another European country, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Briefly describe the type (e.g. workshop, language course, job shadowing) of the planned stay, the duration and the destination country, if already known. We will then discuss the further procedure.

Stays abroad usually last between 2 and 5 days, but can also last up to 60 days if the corresponding funds are available (in each case excluding travel time). The teaching load at STA is at least eight hours per stay/week. Depending on the available budget, a repetition of the mobility is possible. Financial support is based on the different costs of living in the destination countries and usually ranges between 120 and 180 euro per day. Travel costs are also subsidised upon request. Additional funding may be available for employees with disabilities. An overview of the current scholarship rates can be found here.

Eligible destination countries:

  • Member states of the EU (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden as well as the associated overseas territories such as La Reunion, etc.).
  • Countries of the EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway)
  • Turkey
  • Northern Macedonia
  • Serbia

There may be no double funding by the EU, i.e. you may not receive another EU grant at the same time as the Erasmus grant. The DAAD rules out the simultaneous receipt of an Erasmus scholarship and another DAAD scholarship. If you are in receipt of a DAAD scholarship, please consult the relevant contact person. Stays in EU institutions as well as institutions that administer EU programmes are also not eligible for funding. You can find out which institutions are included on the EU website.

There is no insurance cover associated with an ERASMUS+ mobility grant. If you are funded by ERASMUS+, you are obliged to have health insurance, international health insurance, accident insurance as well as liability insurance with certain features - among others, the international health insurance must also cover pandemic cases. Please contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Alternatively, it is possible to take out group insurance at a reduced rate, e.g. through the DAAD.
