Abir Kobeissi, born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, has been living and working in Munich, Germany since 2017. Her practice addresses a wide range of socio-political themes through diverse methodologies, taking a close look at how Value—both economic and moral—is constructed, who gets to claim authorship, and the power systems behind it all. Economic conditions also directly inform her choice of materials, making production itself part of the inquiry.
After obtaining her first diploma in 2011 from the Lebanese University at the Institute of Fine Arts and Architecture, she completed a second diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 2024. Kobeissi is known for her versatility, working across different mediums and techniques. As a Lebanese artist shaped by the country's chronic state of crisis, her experiences deeply inform her vision and each new body of work. This multicultural perspective drives her to explore various forms of expression to provoke thought and open dialogue about contemporary times, rather than limiting herself to a single medium.
Alongside her artistic practice, Kobeissi has been working as an artistic assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich since 2024.
