"de profundis (with headbanging)
A project by Abraham Cruzvillegas at Espacio Cabeza.
Rubbish, leftovers, junk, trash, rubble, bales, crumbs, filth, slang, dross, dust, the scum, the madman, the displaced, the unemployed, the illiterate, the elderly, humanity as a whole destined for waste, hyperconsumerism, and nonsense, as the raw material of art. A compost heap.
This project attempts to demonstrate the capacity to recycle, give new life, and regenerate, using or reflecting on materials, circumstances, and conditions that seem disposable, unusable, or simply dead.
Without illustrating any idea or theme, the proposal will begin by proposing a set of works that revolve around and within the capacity to economically and politically reconstruct possibilities and identities—unstable, precarious, and vulnerable—individual and collective, in the form of ecstatic aesthetics of survival, collaboration, and pleasure: bodies that shake wildly amidst collapse, to the rhythm of death metal ripiao, hyperpopdeephouse, and soccalipso. A renewed search for desire from the precarious, the unstable, and the improvised.
The exhibition will bring together works by a group of artists from different generations, both previously unpublished, commissioned, and created on-site, accompanied by live experiences."
