"The VA[A]DS program at the Free University of Tbilisi is now nearly ten years old. Since 2014, the local art scene in Tbilisi has undergone a major transformation, with VA[A]DS playing a significant role in this change. The emergence of independent galleries has contributed to a vibrant arts community, which could be called a grassroots movement as it was not assisted or encouraged by the government agencies or the country’s cultural policy. When you visit Tbilisi now, you can see contemporary art exhibitions and see the parallel world of the Ministry of Culture, which has its following of soviet style artists."
