"Emelie Röndahl is an artist who for several years works with figurative rya, a traditional Scandinavian weaving technique that historically has been used to weave blankets that imitate sheep skins where the hairy part lays against the body. She is Professor of Textile at KHiO in Norway. Röndahl holds an MFA in Craft from HDK-Valand (2012) and a PhD in Artistic Research from the University of Gothenburg (2022). In 2024, she was awarded the Stena Foundation Cultural Scholarship, which included an exhibition at the Gothenburg Museum of Art. She is currently exhibiting at ASI in Minnesota from February to June 2026.
For her talk, Röndahl will introduce her artistic practice in handwoven rya textiles, as well as her research interests. She will present Beyond Heritage, an artistic research project by Franz Petter Schmidt, and introduce the Agenda-KUF special, featuring invited textile researchers presenting material on the theme of anger."
