The Erasmus programme was launched in 1987 and has become the most popular exchange programme. With around 30 partner universities, the AdBK Munich offers you the best conditions for an Erasmus stay. In addition to exemption from tuition fees at the partner university and administrative support, the Erasmus exchange programme also comes with a scholarship.

In 2021, a new generation of the Erasmus programme has begun, the so-called ERASMUS+ (duration 2021 - 2027).

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Matriculation at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich
  • Completion of at least two semesters of study at the beginning of the stay abroad (Master programme one semester)
  • Knowledge of the language of instruction at the host university (English language skills are sometimes also accepted)
  • Students who do not have their main place of residence in Germany may not complete the semester abroad in their main country of residence

Duration of the stay
Three to a maximum of twelve months, i.e. one or two semesters within an academic year.

Partner Universities
Please inform yourself about your preferred partner university at an early stage.

Please also find out whether your degree programme is offered at the partner university.

In preparation, we recommend that you read the experience reports of former Erasmus students. You can find them in the library

(Privacy Statement)

Application procedure

1. Find out about the exact semester times and the language of instruction at the partner university.

2. Register in the online portal and complete the corresponding online form. If you have already registered, you can log in here to edit your application. A direct application to the partner university is not possible.

3. After the application deadline, the International Office will make a selection based on the following criteria:

  • Existing exchange places
  • Previous participation in the Erasmus programme
  • If applicable, semester level (if there are more applicants than places, higher semesters will be given preference. However, a low semester is not a basic criterion for exclusion!)

4. You will be informed by the International Office whether you have been offered a place. The International Office will then nominate you at the partner university.

5. Once you have been nominated, the next step is to send your application documents to the partner university. Please inform yourself in advance about the application deadline and the required application documents (e.g. portfolio, letter of motivation etc). If a so-called Learning Agreement is already required for the application, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We will then send you the relevant information.

6. Notify the International Office of your acceptance.

7. Once you have been accepted, you must register with KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe to receive your scholarship. For more information, see "Scholarships". Please note that you have to register with KOOR 4 weeks before your stay abroad at the latest!

SCHOLARSHIPS

Since 2018, the financial management of the scholarship has been handled by our consortium partner KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe. For the further procedure you therefore have to register in the KOOR-Erasmus Services Mobility Online Portal. On the checklist you can see which documents you need for your registration.

The individual scholarships depend on the country of the partner university and are granted and paid by KOOR-Erasmus Services BW in Karlsruhe. The minimum duration of stay and sponsorship is 3 months. The amount of the current monthly sponsorship sum can be found here.

Please note that KOOR-Erasmus Services must receive your complete documents one month before the start of the study visit at the latest! Retroactive funding is not possible!

Please start several weeks in advance as you will have to obtain various signatures from the host and home university. KOOR-Erasmus Services will process your application successively after receipt of the application documents or after their completeness. In order to ensure equal treatment of all scholarship holders, KOOR-Erasmus Services will apply this procedure in all steps (issue of the Grant Agreement, instruction of the first instalment, processing of the final documents and payment of the second instalment).

You can find detailed tutorials on registration and the required application documents on KOOR's Youtube channel (videos in German only). For questions regarding your registration with KOOR and your scholarship, KOOR offers an online consultation every Tuesday from 11:00 - 12:00 am. You can find the link here.

Please also note: Simultaneous receipt of an Erasmus scholarship and another EU scholarship or a DAAD scholarship is not permitted.

ERASMUS LEARNING AGREEMENT

In order to receive ERASMUS+ funding, you need a so-called Learning Agreement (LA), which you can find in the KOOR-Erasmus Services online tool. This Learning Agreement is divided into three separate sections: Before Mobility, During Mobility and After Mobility and includes an overview of the courses you would like to take during your stay.

You need the name and contact address of the responsible chairperson of the examination board for your degree programme for the LA. These are:

Fine Arts: Prof. Hermann Pitz, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Art Education: Prof. Dr. Sandra Schäfer (until 30.09.2022), This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.; Prof. Tanja Widmann (01.10.2022 - 31.03.2023), This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.; Prof. Dr. Ursula Rogg (01.04.2023 - 30.09.2023), This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Interior Architecture: Prof. Katja Knaus, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Architecture: Prof. Carlo Baumschlager, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Please note: Please create your Learning Agreement via Mobility Online at KOOR. If your partner university requires an OLA (= Online Learning Agreement), please contact us (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Example:

LA 2021 22

All LA sections must be signed by all three parties involved (student, partner university, examination chair AdBK) and uploaded to Mobility Online (KOOR) in the respective time schedule. Based on the Learning Agreement, the Transcript of Records will be created after your semester abroad, which you can then submit to the AdBK Munich in order to have the courses credited to you.

First register at KOOR and upload your certificate of enrolment. You can then start filling out the Learning Agreements.

Before the Mobility – Compilation of the first Learning Agreements
In this part of the Learning Agreement, the courses at the partner university that you would like to attend and the courses at the AdBK that you would like to have replaced by the courses abroad must be entered. The Learning Agreement must be signed by you, the AdBK Munich and the partner university.

1. Fill out the Learning Agreement in Mobility Online. Enter all the courses that you would like to take at the partner university in Table A. Also enter the ECTS points awarded for them. In Table B, enter instead which courses you would normally take at the AdBK Munich during this semester. It is best to discuss the choice of courses with your class professor. It is not necessary for Table B to match Table A directly. The aim is rather that the sum of the learning outcomes achieved abroad replaces a group of learning outcomes at the sending institution. You can acquire 30 ECTS credits per semester. Also indicate the level of your knowledge of the language of instruction. Sign the Learning Agreement.

2. Have the Learning Agreement signed by the responsible chairperson of the examination board of your degree programme:

2. Let the partner university sign your Learning Agreement.
3. Upload the signed Learning Agreement in Moblity Online.
4. Take the OLS language test. You will receive an invitation for this by e-mail.
5. Sign the Funding Agreement. The original must be sent to KOOR by post.
6. You receive the first funding payment.

During the Mobility – Changing the Learning Agreement

Course changes can be entered here after the semester abroad has begun, e.g. because courses are not taking place. You can also add or drop courses. Pleae also enter the reason for the changes in the table. Course changes must be signed again by the AdBK Munich and the partner university. To do this, send the Learning Agreement - During Mobility again to the chair of the examination board.

Please note: You can only change courses during the first 5 weeks of your semester abroad. It is no longer possible to make changes at a later point in time.

Afterwards, you can upload the Learning Agreement - During Mobility again at KOOR-Erasmus Services in Mobility Online. If you do not want to add / change any courses, this part of the Learning Agreement does not need to be filled in.

After the Mobility – Final Learning Agreement
First enter the courses that you have completed at the partner university and (if available) the grades in the table. In the second table, enter the equivalent courses at the AdBK Munich including the ECTS/grades to be credited (except Fine Arts). Then have the Learning Agreement signed by the chair of the examination board.

1. Enter the courses you have completed at the partner university in the table "Transcript of Records at the Recieving Institution". Also enter your grades (if available).

2. In the table "Transcript of Records at the Sending Institution", indicate which of these courses and how many ECTS credits you would like to have credited at the AdBK Munich. You can receive a maximum of 30 ECTS credits per semester. Please fill out both tables, otherwise the LA cannot be accepted.
3. Submit the Learning Agreement After the mobility to the responsible chairperson of the examination board of your degree programme:

Fine Arts: Prof. Hermann Pitz, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Art Education: Prof. Dr. Sandra Schäfer (until 30.09.2022), This email address is being protected from spambots. In order to have your academic archievements abroad recognized, please have the third Learning Agreement (After the mobility) signed by all parties and then submit it to the examination office (Prüfungsamt) responsible for you.

DURING YOUR STAY

In many cases, it is possible to attend introductory weeks for international students or language courses at the host university even before you begin your studies abroad. Therefore, enquire at the host university early on about special offers for international students that facilitate orientation at the beginning of your studies abroad.

In individual cases, it is possible to extend your stay abroad by another semester. Please contact us early (i.e. at least one month before the end of the semester) to apply for an extension.

Please inform the International Office and the Student Office immediately of any changes that occur during your stay abroad, such as an extension or termination of your stay.

EXPERIENCE REPORT

In addition to the study report for the EU or KOOR-Erasmus Services, we ask you to submit an experience report to the AdBK Munich. With your personal experience report, you will significantly help the next generation of Erasmus students in their decision for a university and in the preparation of their stay abroad. You can find the experience reports of former Erasmus students in the library.

Your report should cover the following points: Preparation, arrival, everyday university life, personal experiences and evaluation. The report should be about 1-2 A4 pages long in order to get an impression of the host university and the host country. Useful tips for future students with similar plans are explicitly desired.

Detailed information on how to write your report can be found here.

Please send us the report (preferably as a Word Document) by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than 2 weeks after your return.
