The application comprises the three steps listed below.

The application portal opens on 15 March of each year (link under step 1 below).

 

The Portfolio Forum offers applicants the opportunity to discuss their portfolio with professors or assistants before applying. This is only an offer and not part of the application process, but we recommend that you make an appointment before applying.

 

Please note the language requirements for the degree programmes! Teaching language is usually German.

Admission only takes place once a year with admission to the winter semester. The application portal opens on 15 March each year. You can find the link under step 1 below.

 

Application deadlines:

30 April for Interior Architecture
15 May for all other degree programmes.

 

Portfolio counselling / portfolio forum: We recommend that all applicants take part in a portfolio consultation or portfolio forum for the classes or degree programmes before applying or make an appointment for this. The portfolio consultation is a non-binding counselling service and therefore not an admission requirement.

 

 


You must complete the following steps by the end of the application deadline (for Interior Architecture: 30 April (online registration) for all other degree programmes: 15 May (online registration AND sending your portfolio to the Academy):

 

1. Data entry in the application portal: The application portal opens on 15th March each year. Please make sure you read the description of the application checklist before completing it (the requirements differ for each degree programme).

If the documents are incomplete or received after the deadline, the application is not valid.

Please note the correct customs declaration when sending from non-EU countries. Please send your portfolio very early and allow for delays due to customs handling. Please ensure that your consignment contains a correct customs declaration and pro forma invoice. The contents must be declared as "sample folder" / "documents" / "application consignment" (value below the respective limit for duty-free import) (NOT as "consignment of goods"). The Academy of Fine Arts Munich does not assume any customs/transport/shipping costs or other import duties!

 

You can also hand in your portfolio in person on the following days:

May 13th until May 15th from 9:00-12:00 we offer a personal submission of the application documents (artistic portfolio with the written documents). Please come to the entrance of the New building (Akademiestr. 4). There will be a handover without checking the documents. Please put the portfolio declaration visibly on the outside of the portfolio. Please understand that we cannot offer counselling on site. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us in advance by e-mail or telephone.

 

 


Only applicants who have successfully passed the portfolio selection will be invited to the practical and oral examination. These only take place in the following degree programmes: Interior Architecture, Art Education, Master of Fine Arts and Therapy and Master of Architecture and Art.

 

These examinations are planned for the beginning of July (first week of July). However, these dates are only non-binding information. All applicants who are invited will receive further information by email via the application portal. The invitations with the exact date and further information will be sent by email via the application portal from 22 June. We kindly ask you to refrain from making enquiries. Please bring your ID (identity card or passport) with you to the examination.

 

There are no practical and oral examinations in the Fine Arts degree programme. Admission to the Fine Arts programme is based on the artistic work submitted. At the end of June, admissions and rejections are sent by email via the application portal.

 


Once you have passed the above examinations, you will be admitted for enrollment. You will then receive a letter of admission with all further information.

 


General information on the details of the respective study and examination requirements can be found in the "Statutes and Regulations". In the degree programmes "Fine Arts" and "Art Education", new students are admitted on a probationary basis. In the second semester, students must take a probationary examination.
