In an interdisciplinary project, artists from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (AdBK) are working together with astrophysicists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Haus der Kunst in Munich. Over the coming years, the Collaborative Research Center 1258 ‘Neutrinos and Dark Matter in Astro- and Particle Physics’ (SFB1258), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), will engage in an artistic reflection of its twelve years of research in collaboration with the Class of Photography at AdBK. The common outcomes of this initiative will be presented in collaboration with Haus der Kunst over the course of the following years (2026–28).

Combining both historical, philosophical, as well as sociopolitical conditions, participating artists and scientists will interrogate the visual and cultural apparatuses, artefacts and materials through which scientific investigation becomes visible, questioning the entanglements between representation, power, and epistemology in contemporary science and culture. The collaboration is being overseen by curator Katrin Bauer in close coordination with Haus der Kunst. Elisa Resconi, Professor of Experimental Physics with Cosmic Radiation at TUM and spokesperson for SFB1258, photography and video artist Armin Linke, Professor of Photography at AdBK since 2024, and Andrea Lissoni, Artistic Director of Haus der Kunst, are leading the collaboration.
