Painting and Graphics

Prof.  Schirin Kretschmann

Artistic Assistant: Lea Grebe

Portrait of the class

In Prof. Schirin Kretschmann’s class, painting serves as the starting point for exploring perception, materials and space. Colour, surface and pictorial structure open up spaces of experience in which visual, physical and situational aspects of artistic work converge – in the picture as well as in spatial, process-based or performative works.
The focus of the Fine Arts degree programme is on developing an independent artistic practice, based on direct engagement with images, materials and situations. Students formulate their own questions, experiment with different approaches and reflect on the conditions of their artistic practice. The class also sees itself as a shared working context. Exchange, trust and diverse perspectives form the basis for artistic learning. Through dialogue, forms of collaborative working emerge in which differences become visible and the social conditions of artistic production can be experienced.
