Prof. Dr Ursula Rogg is an artist and educator. In addition to teaching, she conducts research in the transdisciplinary field.
After studying Fine Art and Art Education in Munich, Berlin and London, Rogg worked as a photographic artist. Her photographic series depict people in self-staged situations and reflect an interest in anthropology and everyday culture. Her photographs have been exhibited at venues including the Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art / Kunstinstituut Melly in Rotterdam, the Taipei Biennale, and in solo exhibitions at the Munich Kunstverein and the Westfälischer Kunstverein in Münster. Intensive observation, coupled with a penchant for improvisation and artistic collaboration, have increasingly brought Rogg’s performative work to the fore. Rogg performs as a member of various artist ensembles, such as the women’s collective Dorothy Vallens or, currently, the vocal ensemble Voice X. She leads performance projects with young people and students, including A Museum of Emotions at the Bode Museum in Berlin, and 4 in 1. Speaking Arms, Thinking Bodies at the Lothringer 13 project space in Munich
Ursula Rogg was a teacher of art and drama at schools in so-called ‘hotspot’ areas of Berlin. In 2008, she wrote Nordneukölln: Frontline Report from the Classroom, a widely acclaimed account of her experiences. At the same time, she founded the KontextSchule – a practical and theoretical laboratory for teachers and artists at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). In regions of Brandenburg with poor infrastructure, Rogg led a school development project from 2013 to 2018, in which community work, team teaching, storytelling and the use of aesthetic approaches were practised and explored as an interdisciplinary learning principle. From 2019 to 2021, Rogg was a visiting professor at the Institute for Art Teacher Education at the University of Potsdam. Since 2021, she has been leading the class for Art Education for career changers ("Quereinstieg") as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. Ursula Rogg has been the Women’s and Equality Officer at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich since 2024 and is certified as a first aider in mental health crisis situations / MHFA.
