"Arto Lindsay hails from the New York No Wave scene of the 1970s, an avant-garde music and art scene in which the band DNA, which he founded, played a central role. He developed a radically unconventional guitar style that challenged the conventions of rock and was characterized by scratchy sounds, bursts of noise, and broken rhythms. Later, he fused these avant-garde approaches with Brazilian forms such as samba and bossa nova, combining dissonance with lush melodies and tropicalist influences, often singing in Portuguese and English. His collaborations with artists such as Caetano Veloso and Ryuchi Sakamoto helped bridge the gap between pop and experimental music across cultural boundaries. Arto also worked closely with visual artists such as Vito Acconci, Ernesto Neto, and Matthew Barney, thereby expanding his sonic language into installation and multimedia contexts; his sound can be heard in the exhibition “For Children,” created in collaboration with Rivane Neuenschwander at Haus der Kunst Munich. Arto Lindsay will offer thoughts on improvisation and parades, neither of which is an individual activity."

*For students: There is a possibility to have an one-on-one talk with the artist on the 23.06.
