"Amy Sillman, born in Detroit 1955, is a New York based visual artist, known for paintings that move between abstraction and representation. In addition to painting, Sillman works across non-traditional media, including animation, zines, and more recently, installations that extend the painted surface to cover walls and floors.
Sillman is an active writer – Recent publications include Faux Pas, a collection of essays on John Chamberlain, Eugène Delacroix, Rachel Harrison, and Laura Owens (After 8 Books, Paris).
She has taught at Bard College and Städelschule, among other institutions.
Sillman has curated exhibitions such as Shape of Shape, 2019 (Museum of Modern Art, NY).
Her work has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including Alternate Side, Dia Bridgehampton NY, 2025, Oh Clock, Kunstmuseum Bern, 2024, Landline, Camden Arts Centre, London, UK, 2018, One Lump or Two, Hessel Museum of Art, Bard College, NY, 2014."
