"Through site-specific installations, videos, and zines, Nango explores the intersections of Indigenous and contemporary architectures, traditional Sámi construction methods, and new media. His hands-on research practice challenges Western definitions of Indigeneity within the creative process. He investigates how the self-sufficiency, resourcefulness, and improvisational ingenuity inherent in Indigenous ways of living with and moving through the land shape alternative understandings of space. His work reveals how architecture—as a lived framework—has contributed to the complex narrative of colonization in the North.

Joar Nango is a Sámi artist and architect lives and works in Tromsø, Norway. Trained as an architect, he co-founded the collective Felleskapsprosjektet å Fortette Byen (FFB) with Eystein Talleraas and Håvard Arnhoff. His work has been exhibited at Documenta 14, the Chicago Architecture Biennial 2019, La Biennale di Venezia 2023, ArkDes in Stockholm, the Yokohama Triennale 2024, and numerous other national and international exhibitions and biennials."
