"Nakul Krishnamurthy is an Indian artist working at the intersection of Carnatic and Hindustani music with Western classical, experimental, and electronic music. Using procedural composition and electronic techniques, he reconfigures the structural foundations of Indian classical music to generate new interpretations, and to subvert the dominant Brahmanical frameworks through which Carnatic music is conventionally understood. His work fashions an intercultural space where hegemonic structures are dismantled through exchange, presenting unexplored dimensions of the ‘Carnatic sound’. In his lecture ‘Listening Across Difference’, Nakul traces recurring patterns in the reception of Indian classical-adjacent music in experimental music contexts and reflects on how listening practices, formed through history and habit, shape what is heard and what remains unheard. Recent projects include those at Wigmore Hall, CTM Berlin, Pirelli HangarBicocca, Café Oto, Serralves em Festa, MART Trento / Rovereto, among others. Releases on Takuroku and Death of Rave."
