"Gala Berger’s practice unfolds at the intersection of historical research and material experimentation. Through textiles and archival materials, she questions systems of injustice and explores forms of resistance embedded in craft, storytelling, and collective imagination. Her works often draw on Latin American contexts while reflecting transnational concerns around migration, gender, and cultural memory. During her residency in Munich, Gala plans to continue her exploration of textile-based media, drawing from open-access archives and her ongoing research into the carnivalesque. She is interested in working with large-format collages that combine sublimation prints, synthetic fabrics, and printmaking—materials that allow for layering personal and historical references. The project will evolve and respond to the local context, shaped by the stories, images, and encounters she gathers throughout her stay.

Gala Berger (Villa Gesell, Argentina, 1983) is a visual artist, curator, and researcher who has lived in Buenos Aires, Lima, San José, Toronto, and Mexico City. Her work is deeply rooted in Latin America. She has been the co-creator of several independent and collective projects, among them Retablos por la Memoria (Lima, 2022 -2025); Casa MA (San José, 2018- 2025); Museo La Ene (Buenos Aires 2010- 2020); and a member of Colección Cooperativa (Lima, 2023-2025) a collection of collective property. During her travels, Gala collaborates and collects materials. These cooperative initiatives inform and nourish her textile collage pieces.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous independent spaces, galleries, and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires. Since 2022, she has been collaborating with the shipibo artist Metsá Rama in exploring the intersection of art and the environment, working on a project focused on art and agriculture in the Amazon"

The lecture will be held in English.
