"A beach ball arcs back and forth over a towering hedge. Its trajectory only reveals itself in the brief moment when it peaks above the green wall – only then do we know how to place ourselves in order to return it safely to the unseen companion on the other side. The surprise is exhilarating, releasing a spark of playful desire – we can hardly wait for the ball to reappear, to strike it anew, to lift it once more over the hedge, and with that the cycle of anticipation begins again. The purpose of this game seems to lie in the act of play itself. It is about keeping the ball aloft, sustaining its rhythm, and together with the “invisible” partner weaving the longest possible rally. One does not play against, but with. Either the hedge prevails – or we, the fellowship of the ball.
What is initiated here is a dialogical moment, a sense of belonging, a continuous exchange. It no longer matters whether we search for the ball tangled in the hedge, brush away the flies from our partner’s eyes, or discover together the right height from which to strike the ball safely across. What matters is the joy of shared curiosity, the process itself, and the exuberant delight in exchange and presence."
