Between silence, nothingness, melancholia, fatigue and refusal – this lecture will attempt to reflect on the meaning of “production” and the absence thereof. Looking at different attitudes of withdrawal in the arts, we will think about whether or not these can become forms of resistance against an ever-expanding neoliberal capitalist system. What is “to do nothing” and how do we value it? These concerns will also be addressed on a more personal scale and can be discussed individually or as a group.

After studying Fine Arts at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg, France, and at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Isabelle Tondre is currently completing a master of Curatorial Studies at the Städelschule and Goethe-University in Frankfurt. Recent curatorial projects include the two-channel exhibition Out Of Time with Tatiana Vdovenko and Man Rei (aka. Kristin Reiman) at the Isenburger Schloss – HfG Offenbach (2020), No Matter How Thick the Glass with Ifie Sin at Basis Frankfurt (2018), and The Biography of Things at the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Eschborn (2018).

*The lecture will be held in English.
